POSITION DESCRIPTION:

At the plant location, ensure a safe, quality product, that meets or exceeds the expectations of our customers, is produced every time. Provide leadership and technical assistance in formulation, manufacturing procedures, and cost control as well as build and oversee a high-functioning team of Quality employees.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assure compliance with all Federal, State and Governmental regulations, customer requirements and appropriate regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure quality system compliance as it relates to the Lab including employee training and ongoing monitoring of Allergen Program, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Pest Control program, HACCP program (Serve as the HACCP Coordinator)
  • Confirm all lab equipment is maintained, calibrated and accurate at all times
  • Investigate customer complaints and identify effective corrective actions
  • Make sure the lab functions effectively including appropriate materials, proper MSDSs, effective employee training and the use of standardized methods
  • Maintain product specifications, work with formulators to determine when specifications need to be revised, review and submit for approval when changes are needed to formulas or operating specifications
  • Approve and coordinate appropriate disposition product that is out of specifications
  • Maintain current status of all finished goods (i.e. holds, reject or release)
  • Ensure quality of packaging materials
  • Perform shelf life studies on new materials and coordinate test runs of new packaging materials
  • Communicate professionally with a wide variety of contacts, including employees, Process Authority, suppliers, vendors, etc…
  • Review all completed lab paperwork for accuracy ie., monitoring sheets, 10-day evaluations, sample reports, calibration records, ATP swabbing and the Environmental swabbing

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • 4 yr. Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or equivalent food manufacturing work experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment, preferably consumer packaged goods
  • Quality Assurance technical experience and Computer skills specifically in spreadsheet and data base management is required
  • Supervision experience and specialized training or education in dairy is preferred
  • Aseptic processing experience, Statistical Process Control and/or Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
